Le Méridien Columbus, The Joseph is a stylish, art-driven boutique hotel in the Short North Arts District, celebrated for its attentive staff and fantastic breakfast, though guests should be wary of variable room quality—some experiencing noise, mold, or maintenance issues despite the high average rating.
We come to Columbus every year for the Arnold and were incredibly excited to stay at The Joseph. The staff has been friendly and accommodating and the hotel itself is beautiful. The disappointing part falls on the hotel’s decision to contract a 5pm checkout for a very large group on the Thursday leading into the Arnold Sports Festival - most rooms remain unavailable even hours past the 3pm check in time and there are close to 30 of us -all with reservations that were generally made months in advance - waiting in the lobby for our rooms. It’s not the end of the world, but it is below the standard I would expect for a luxury hotel. Again, I have to iterate that the staff themselves have been wonderful and this is a difficult situation they have been put in, it’s just a disappointing start to a stay we were excited for.
WOW! We have stayed at many Marriott’s and many many in Columbus. This hotel will now be the only one we stay at on our visits. Clean, comfortable and amenities not commonly found in rooms anymore. No question on where to stay for us next time!
I took my wife to a dinner event at this hotel on Feb 7, 2026. It was 13 degrees outside, so we tried using the valet service. We were denied service because the valet was “overwhelmed”. He spent several minutes with my passenger door open explaining why we wouldn’t take my car. We asked him several times to shut it, so we could find parking and he kept it open with his foot on the step side of my SUV. From an individual to individual, I hear you. It’s cold and a very busy night in Columbus. From a service and doing the job you signed up for, come on man. It’s wildly cold outside and you just denied my wife and me a paid service. Take my car, drive slow, put the heated and massage seats on and chill for a minute. We had to use street side parking roughly 3 blocks away and walk. Snow was up to our knees and the pathway to walk, where there was one, was 10-12 inches wide. When I let the hotel know the issue, they said they would check on it. When I let the restaurant know, they said they would address the issue. Once we finished our dinner (~$600) the host at the restaurant came to let us know that they addressed it with the hotel and thanked us for the understanding. I’m not one for asking for free things because I think that’s petty, but goodness. I’m usually an ambassador elite member, though I do drop to titanium last year, with Marriott hotels. This was seriously the worst handled inconvenience I have had in my more than 12 years with Bonvoy. This is a one off, and I have no other experience with Le Méridien, so take this for what it is. I hope they provide better service for others in the future. It was a very inconvenient night to have this kind of issue that came to no known conclusion. Maybe the hotel needs to staff up their valet stand, so their employees don’t feel like this. It was very much not like any Marriott experience I have had anywhere.
This is one of the best hotels I stayed in for quite some time. Now, the entrance was rowdy and overwhelming as they were having an event and I had been driving for hours at night, but I was able to navigate to the check in desk without an issue. The rooms are extremely clean and trendy. Only downside was the parking, valet is the only option. There is only a small area to offload.
I enjoy staying at Le Méridien Columbus, The Joseph, I’ve stayed a few times when my friend visits so we can enjoy what downtown has to offer. During my most recent check-in, I had an uncomfortable experience with the front desk associate, Rhyan Throughout the check-in process, Rhyan provided almost no information about the hotel or its amenities—no mention of breakfast, the bar, or anything else. The only information he offered was when he handed us the keys & that was a reminder that smoking and vaping are not allowed in the room. Neither of us smoke or vape, so this felt unnecessary and confusing. What made it stand out even more was hearing the guest next to us receive a full overview of the hotel during their check-in, without any mention of smoking or vaping. As a Marriott associate myself and a repeat guest at this property, this interaction felt inconsistent and uncomfortable. I’m unsure whether the treatment was influenced by the associate discount or something else that i would hope isn’t the case, but it did make us feel singled out. That said, I do want to note that the bar staff provided an excellent experience. They were welcoming, professional, and attentive, which helped improve our overall stay. I’ve enjoyed this hotel in the past, which is why this experience stood out. I hope management can address consistency at the front desk so all guests receive the same level of hospitality and information upon arrival.
We chose this hotel for our 5-year anniversary getaway, expecting a luxurious experience based on how the property is marketed. Unfortunately, our stay did not live up to that expectation. Upon arrival, we requested a high floor with a city view and were assigned Room 1007. I strongly recommend not accepting this room. Throughout our stay, there was constant loud noise above us, similar to being directly beneath a pool, with sounds continuing both day and night. Whether it was old pipes or another issue, it made the room very uncomfortable and disruptive. For a hotel that presents itself as upscale, several details were disappointing. The bathroom was stocked with very thin, off-brand toilet paper, and there was no conditioner in the shower upon arrival (though the front desk did promptly bring a bottle, which we appreciated). Additionally, the bedding was extremely firm, to the point that I woke up unable to turn my head left or right, which ultimately led us to leave early. We booked a 4 day stay. It snowed 2 nights during the stay and many of the sidewalks including this hotels stayed slippery from not throwing salt as well. If you are looking for a truly luxurious hotel experience, this is not it. That said, the staff were kind, helpful, and welcoming, which deserves recognition. The coffee from The Soul was excellent, and while we didn’t dine there, the hotel is in a great location surrounded by top-notch restaurants. The art gallery on the second floor is also a nice touch and worth visiting. Overall, while the service and location were strong, the room quality and overall comfort fell short of what’s advertised.
My husband I were gifted a weekend stay at this hotel. (12/5-12/7) I chose this room specifically for the large soaking tub. Upon arrival the room seems perfect. Beautiful decor, Nespresso machine, huge king bed and even a Christmas tree. As soon as we checked I headed for that tub. To my shock there was MOLD. Mold on the ceiling, on the floor. Rusty fixtures! And the sliding door was dropping metal shavings all over the floor. I was grateful I brought slippers to avoid getting metal in my feet! The next day we ordered room service breakfast and there was a hair in my napkin/silverware roll up! I expected a better quality mold, rust and hair free experience from this hotel. If you plan on staying here, lower your expectations.
The rooms are very nice and our view over the city was especially pleasant. The service was immaculate and super helpful with all of my many needs. There are plenty of food options within walking distance. I parked my car and never needed it for the whole weekend. And for my personal reason it was less than 5 min walk from the convention center.
We absolutely loved our stay here! The front desk was so helpful, they were quick and friendly and took the best care of us. They were so genuine and made sure we had the great time here with every detail for our elopement. The valet was great, too.
Really nice hotel with excellent staff, an amazing location, and a great restaurant. So why not five stars? The coffee in the lobby bar was honestly the worst I’ve ever had—and that’s saying something. Paying $6 for an espresso that bad should be a crime; I couldn’t even finish it. Everything else, though, was fantastic. The staff were genuinely friendly, and the housekeeper might have been the best I’ve ever had at any hotel. The property is in a great neighborhood with lots of restaurants nearby, and the on-site restaurant is actually worth a visit too. My only other gripe is with valet parking—$50 a night feels excessive for Columbus, and I had to wait over 20 minutes each time I needed my car. For my fellow coffee lovers, do yourself a favor and walk a block to Park Service Coffee. I’d love for management to do a side-by-side espresso tasting—they might not even be able to finish their own.
