The Hampton Inn & Suites Columbus/University Area consistently receives positive reviews for its friendly staff, particularly a standout clerk named Mo, and clean, comfortable rooms. While some guests appreciate its convenient location near Ohio State and the Olentangy River, others have expressed concerns regarding outdated amenities, noise levels, and limited dining options within walking distance. Recent reviews highlight a significant safety issue with car break-ins in the parking lot, and a lack of action from hotel management.
Wonderful place to stay. Upon arrival the sweet lady asked what brought us to the area. I shared with her my mom had to see her Oncologist early in the morning and possibly have more testing done again. (We live almost 2hrs away)…She looked at our reservation and quickly changed it to a medical reason and saved us money. We’re so grateful. When you have a loved one fighting cancer it can become extremely difficult, financially and emotionally. This means a lot to us. The kind gentleman over the continental breakfast was so very nice, and helpful as well. The only thing I wish they had would’ve been a relaxing Hot Tub.
The best part of this hotel was the check-in. Mo is probably the best hotel desk clerk we have ever had. She was friendly, cheerful, and helpful. She confirmed I was a Hilton Honors customer. She even saw and verified my request for room location in a quiet area of the hotel. Couldn't ask for better service. The hotel was very nice and well-kept. Centrally located to stores and restaurants. The room was comfortable except for the bathroom vent which is loud (no on/off switch) unless you close the door. The breakfast buffet was clean and also well-kept. We only wish we could have stayed more than one night.
We went down for the OSU 4 Miler and being so close to campus and only a short drive off 315 made life so easy! The room was lovely with a view of the Olentangy River. My daughter loved the pool! It was close to restaurants so we could walk to dinner.
WONDERFUL STAY ! My experience started at check in with Mo. I could tell that she was very busy. But when it came time for me, she greeted me cheerfully with a smile. She was so professional, personable, pleasant, and helpful. I mentioned some of the places I was in town to see. Immediately she had printouts of directions on how to get to the Blue Jackets game etc. I was so impressed and felt so welcome. The room was fantastic. Very clean, spacious. Nice furniture and decor. Very nice glass walk in shower. The whole property was well maintained and very clean. This is my new " go to place" when in Columbus !
Clean rooms and hotel. Pretty big for a hampton. My sheets smelled nice and were softer than usual hotels. Pillows were clean as well.
My room is gorgeous and very modern with a black & gray theme....classy, if you will. The room is also very clean and smells good, unlike some other rooms at hotels that smell stale. The reception area and staff are also very welcoming & friendly. I don't eat breakfast, so I can't attest for the quality but given everything else, it's unlikely that I'd be disappointed. The only con that I would give is the location, and that's because not a lot of food choices are within a close walking distance. You do have a few but it's very limited. Overall, this is a very nice hotel and I'd definitely stay here again. (Note: HHonors Gold Status member)
This is a pretty nice hotel conveniently located near Ohio state and the James. It’s a pretty typical Hampton although there were a few issues particularly with noise. The doors do slam although not so loud that I was woken up as some others have complained of. The heat was also very loud and I had to turn it down a bit to get it down to a reasonable level. Also my clock was not working when I got there. The breakfast was pretty good but I was disappointed that the only waffle toppings were butter and a raspberry sauce. The rooms look very modern and don’t show much wear. The shower was particularly great and had very hot water. Overall a good experience.
BED BUGS! OUR GROUP HAD A ROOM ON LOWER FLOOR AND A ROOM ON UPPER FLOOR. BOTH ROOMS HAVE BEDBUGS! They knew it and still rented those rooms out to our group. We got bit bad and went to talk to the manager. She sent someone out to tell me she was busy even though she knew I got bedbug bites from staying in her hotel! You do not want the "extras" from this place! Do NOT book Hampton Inn & Suites Columbus/University Area!!!
Have stayed here multiple times over the years, because of doctors appointments at the Ross hospital. We have always had nice rooms & friendly people. I'm sure we will be back. Good job guys & gals!
I’ve stayed here twice now, but I think I’ll be changing it up next time. The rooms are dated and show their age (fraying carpet tiles). The beds themselves have certainly seen better days. They’re creaky and springy. When I arrived for an early check in (at 12:00pm, the usual time of check out), the front desk attendant was no where to be seen. Three of us waited in the lobby for almost 20 minutes before we were helped. A member of the crew saw me and said he’d let them know we were there. (No one came). Another gentleman walked from the back to the side doorway, grabbed a drink from the staff fridge, and then walked back. We then waited another 5-10 minutes before the front desk staff came down from near the elevators. For the cost per night, I’m not convinced this location is the best option.
