Recent guest reviews for the Aloft Columbus Westerville reveal a significant and persistent problem with cleanliness and maintenance. Multiple reviewers reported stained walls, grime, deteriorating caulking, and a generally neglected appearance, alongside issues like hair in the bathroom and an unpleasant odor. While some guests praised the friendly staff and a comfortable bed, the overwhelming sentiment is negative due to the property’s condition.
The room was not clean and the property appears to be suffering from deferred maintenance. There were visible stains on walls, dirty window tracks, grime and deteriorating caulking in the bathroom, and sagging ceiling panels in common areas. These were not minor issues that required close inspection—they were immediately noticeable. I rarely leave negative reviews, but the condition of the room fell well below my expectations. Management should prioritize cleanliness and routine maintenance before charging the rates they currently do.
Extremely disappointed with my stay at this Aloft Hotels location. The moment you walk into the hallways, there’s a horrible smell like feet and mold. Unfortunately, the rooms smell the same way, which made the entire stay uncomfortable and unpleasant. The cleanliness was also terrible. Housekeeping barely seemed to clean the room properly, and basic things like replacing washcloths weren’t even done. We ended up having to reuse the same ones from previous days, which is honestly unacceptable for any hotel. The rooms themselves were very small and poorly maintained. Everything felt cheap, cramped, and unappetizing. For the price and reputation of this hotel, I expected a clean, comfortable environment, but this stay was the complete opposite. I would not stay here again or recommend it to anyone.
Amazing hotel! Modern cute decor and the front desk and staff have always been so kind and helpful when staying here. Very clean rooms with soft comfortable beds and a fun swimming pool to enjoy. Also the made to order breakfast is delicious! Totally one of my top favorite places to stay. Also they have the best variety of snacks and drinks it's like a movie theater! :D
Perfect experience for what we needed. Rooms are smaller, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything. The rooms were incredibly clean, although I didn't see any housekeeping staff the entire time I was there. The drybar hair products are a wonderful bonus! :)
Rooms are very cute,I was informed that management was not there at 12 Pm on a Monday as well as I called Tuesday and the front desk associate”Jenna” “stated” management is not out of town) why would Jenna who claimed to be the front desk supervisor say that that. I’ve stayed here in the past and my problems have always been taken care of it… Management in the last 5-6 month Is completely terrible. I will be going to another chain, when I asked to speaks to Elizabeth or to give my number to Elizabeth since she is the one who helped me before.. The young lady denied knowing this staff memberand then said yes it’s very sad I hate that she is gone is caused many issues… I looked at my finance in disbelief.. I will be calling Robert Ryan myself because that young lady was so sweet the light of the hotel and to have someone speak of her negativity like that is is inexcusable.
Gorgeous Hotel!! Wonderful experience!! The Front Desk Staff was very friendly and Management was very helpful and professional! I look forward to returning soon!!
I was a little worried when I was looking at reviews before booking. But I found pretty much all of the negative reviews to be false. At least for us. The front desk staff was amazing our whole visit. Everytime we walked in the door, We were greeted. Even housekeeping was amazing. Our towels got switched out daily. Room was clean. There was a little wear on the walls and such but to be expected with an 8 year old hotel. Cant comment on the breakfast or bar as we didnt use those amenities. Felt safe. The area was nice. Security circled the parking lot all night. Stopped to check the inside occasionally. Overall an amazing stay.
The night shift receptionist’s attitude felt more like that of a detention center than a hotel. To the point that I asked her if she was angry. I don’t know—everything else was perfect, except that she acted as if she owned the place and treated us in a very cold and harsh manner. I feel disappointed.
Extremely Disappointing Stay We arrived late due to a flight delay and checked into our room around 12:45 AM. As always, we inspected the room before unpacking and immediately noticed human hair on the shower walls and tiles—clearly unsanitary. We returned to the front desk to report the issue to the night auditor, who was courteous and tried to help by assigning us a new room. Unfortunately, it took about 25 minutes for her to figure out how to change our room. When we got to the new room, the key card didn’t work. She ran back to get another one, but that also failed. After another 15 minutes, we were finally placed in a room on the first floor. The night auditor was kind and even brought us an extra blanket when she noticed how cold the room was. Despite her efforts, the second room was no better. The carpet was coming up, the bathroom sliding door was off its track and wouldn’t close, the nightstands were warped from water damage, the shower grout was moldy. Overall, the room felt unhygienic. The AC/heater unit was so loud we barely got three hours of sleep. The next morning, we spoke with the morning auditor to request a refund. She was dismissive and said she couldn’t issue one. When we asked for the manager’s contact information, she refused, citing privacy concerns. She offered to move us to yet another room, but we had already changed rooms twice and declined. She told us we’d need to open a case with Marriott Bonvoy. We checked out and contacted Marriott Bonvoy the following day. They refunded three nights but still charged us for the first night, which we feel is unacceptable given the circumstances. We were respectful throughout the ordeal, but the experience was frustrating and exhausting. Writing this review so others are aware of what we went through.
Was in town for a family emergency and needed a room for a few nights. I always stay at Marriott brands when possible and have recommend aloft in Westerville as a great option in the past to friends, colleagues and family when in the area. I arrived late and exhausted when I checked in with the woman at the front counter, so her lack of customer service was noted but not as much of a concern as getting to a clean quiet room to be able to rest. She gave me a room on the 1st floor which I had never stayed in a 1st floor room, so I was confused as where to go (she did not offer to help or give directions). After locating my room I was instantly met with the strong smell of wet dog (ahh they offer pet stays here I remembered- and ugh! this is not what I was expecting). I brought my luggage in the room and told myself I would talk to the hotel in the morning (it was after midnight at this point). The walls had random smudges and smears, the toilet paper roll holder was broken and positioned up to keep the toilet paper from falling off and there was hairs on the bathroom floor that were not mine. Again I just needed to sleep. As I lay down on the bed I noticed ants crawling under the table by the window and TV. I tossed and turned trying to sleep and woke up to a huge spider crawling across my blanket while I was laying in there - I shot up out of bed, took a video to show the hotel and decided this was too much- I'm not comfortable enough to even sleep- I need to check out. When I went to the front desk to check out and discuss the room, my experience, and the video I took of the spider crawling on the bed, I was not met with empathy or an offer to refund my stay or to not charge for the 2nd day (as I had booked with points) no apology just handed me a print out and went back to talking among themselves
