The Blackwell Inn and Pfahl Conference Center is centrally located on Ohio State University's campus, offering convenient access to athletic facilities and the surrounding area. While generally praised for its comfortable rooms, friendly staff, and convenient amenities like a shuttle, recurring concerns relate to dated facilities, particularly popcorn ceilings and old bathroom fixtures, and occasional issues with billing practices.
We needed a hotel near Ohio State University because my son was attending a football camp. The Blackwell Inn is conveniently located on campus and it's within walking distance of the football facility. The hotel also provides a free shuttle service within a 3 mile radius for those who prefer not to walk. There are several restaurants located near by within walking distance (if you like wings, go to The O on Lane, they are DELICIOUS!) or you can go out and walk the beautiful campus grounds. As far as the hotel and our experience, it was amazing! The staff was very friendly, accommodating, and professional. The rooms were amazing, they are very spacious with great views. For breakfast you have a choice of buffet for $15 or a la carte which is basically the same price just slight more. Overall, we had a great experience and we are definitely stay here again when we're back in town!
This hotel has the best location for visits to OSU, no doubt. But this place is OLD! I the 80s it was probably a nice Sheraton-equivalent hotel. The bathrooms are soooo old! Gross grout in the shower. Even has that recessed tile soap holder in the shower. Sink and toilets haven't been changed in decades. "It cannot feel that old" , you might be inclined to say. I say, "it has POPCORN ceilings!" Yes, they have not even taken the time to scrape that off the ceiling. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe this hotel is from the 70s, I dunno. Even the TVs do not have Netflix or Amazon capability, so you cannot watch your own account while in the room. I mean, even the most budget hotels have this capability in 2026 Some positives - staff is great. The beds and pillows have been upgraded and are comfortable. They did update the floors in the room and there is a kind of modern/rural headboard setup going on. The hotel is maybe 200 yards from the gates to get into the stadium. Location is unbearable - and this probably drives demand and allows them from having to invest in a remodel - this place must be full at a high price during home football games. It was not an unpleasant stay but just know that you're staying in a place with popcorn ceilings in 2026
Blackwell Inn exceeded our expectations! We arrived several hours before check-in and they not only accommodated us early, but also upgraded us to a conference suite. It was definitely more space than we needed — conference room included lol — but such a fun surprise. The room was incredibly well stocked. They provided all shower necessities, even a razor, toothbrush, and toothpaste. There was also an iron and ironing board, which definitely came in handy. The conference suite had a full-size fridge and freezer, cabinets, a sink, and a large coffee area with multiple coffee options and everything needed to make it. One of the nicest touches was returning in the evening to find two Buckeyes candies and a trail mix snack waiting for us as a goodnight treat. In the morning, they also held our luggage for us, which made everything so convenient. Amazing location for visiting Ohio State. We will definitely be back!
This is a beautiful place. I was impressed, this was my first time in Ohio, attending a festival, I got there early and was let into my room. Rooms are gorgeous, bed so comfortable. Now I ALWAYS seek out a Marriott, no matter what....I will be returning to The Blackwell next year no doubt. Very impressed!
We stayed at The Blackwell Inn for a long weekend to attend the Sonic Temple music festival. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. We utilized the valet parking and it could not have been easier. We were upgraded to a conference suite for no additional charge and it was lovely! Huge CLEAN room with a mini kitchen that was equipped with a full sized refrigerator, microwave, and Keurig. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. We visited O’s on Lane and First Watch and our waitstaff were truly the BEST! We walked to the music festival and then back at 11 o’clock at night and never once felt unsafe. I just absolutely love the area and the state as a whole. Good, solid, hardworking human beings
Very clean, conveniently located, and the in room coffee is Keurig K-cup style. That's all I need! I have stayed at this hotel several times as they offer discounted rates for families of The James patients (if you ask). In-room televisions are large updated flat screens. Beds are extremely comfortable. Valet parking is around $35 per night...But that is comparable to overnight charges at the nearby parking garage and worth the convenience. The only thing I would improve upon is the showers. The water pressure is good, but a walk in type would allow more space and appear more modern. Overall a great hotel!! Book it!!!
DO NOT use the valet. One of their employees literally peeled out in a customer's Alfa Romero. Hotel was very nice and close to location for concert. Rooms have zero sound deadening. Could hear people in the halls conversation without trying
Location was perfect, went to a concert at the Schottenstein Center. Hotel itself was not very impressive. Small lobby, front desk clerk that was not very helpful at all, restaurant doesn't have dinner, lounge closes early. The towels were just ok but I did like the black makeup towel. Beds were ok.
We had a very nice stay. The rooms were very nice and clean. Plenty of space. The staff was so nice and answered all our questions with a smile. We definitely would stay here again when we’re in town.
I stayed at the Blackwell Inn during the level 3 snow emergency that we had in Columbus after my shift at OSU. They provided medical center staff with an emergency rate that also included valet. It was such a welcome gesture after being out in the snow. The staff were really kind and everything about the hotel was really nice; the rooms, the lobby, everything. I had a nice view of the stadium from my room. They offer room service and everything you would need. I would definitely return.
