The Wyndham Columbus presents a mixed experience characterized by distinct pockets of high cleanliness and helpful service, contrasted by significant room maintenance issues and concerning staff interactions. Guests report a dated facility, with many citing substandard amenities and inconsistent management, especially during renovations.
I would strongly caution anyone especially Black travelers from booking at this property. My experience at the Wyndham Columbus was not just a “bad stay.” It was a combination of unsafe room conditions, misrepresentation, refusal to help, emotional manipulation, and ultimately retaliation when I tried to advocate for myself. I was given two rooms that were completely unacceptable for a hotel advertised as 4?star: strong smoke and bleach odor, burn marks on the furniture, peeling chairs and toilet, and stained curtains. When I reported these issues, the front desk staff dismissed my concerns and told me there was nothing she could do. While I was away, I contacted Priceline. The hotel staff member lied to them and claimed I had never reported any problems. When I returned, she became emotional, told me she “had to go in the bathroom and cry,” and then labeled me “confrontational” a racialized stereotype that Black women know all too well. She then escalated the situation by having security remove me from the premises, even though I never raised my voice or behaved aggressively. This wasn’t customer service. It was retaliation for asserting my right to safe lodging. After this happened, I looked at public reviews and saw a pattern of similar complaints about this property including reports of poor room conditions, dismissive staff, and unnecessary escalation. My experience fits that pattern exactly. I have filed formal complaints with the Ohio Attorney General and the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. No guest should be treated this way, and no one should be punished for speaking up about unsafe or unsanitary conditions.
Stayed one night while passing through the area, The location was quite nice and convenient overall. The staff really made sure to make me feel at home. Answered all of my questions immediately! Although I had to come back to the desk to recode my card more than once, The staff never made me feel bad about it. I don’t normally leave reviews but some of the staff need recognition! Especially Michael who checked me in and Ryan in the mornings (again, so sorry for loosing my key so often!) Overall a lovely stay, 10/10 would stay again!
I had a really disappointing experience staying at this hotel in Columbus, Ohio. The staff were incredibly rude — especially one employee with short blonde/brown hair and piercings. They made me feel like I was an inconvenience just for wanting to buy a drink from the gift shop, which was honestly uncomfortable and unnecessary. The room itself was just okay, but there wasn’t even hand soap provided, which felt pretty basic for any hotel stay. On top of that, our key card stopped working halfway through our stay, which was frustrating and inconvenient to deal with. The surrounding area also felt a bit sketchy and didn’t feel very safe, especially at night. Overall, the experience was not welcoming, not comfortable, and definitely not somewhere I would choose to stay again.
Overall, the experience here was down right aweful. From the staff working at the front desk to rooms to the outside building, nothing was shown as it was in the photos . It is very much a low life low maintenance building with very few upkeeps done to it . The beds were disgusting the closet door would shut and at all and it’s a door not a slider and we had orders a full bed but they gave a 2 twin size . As a couple on Valentine’s Day we didn’t get to sleep together and the beds had mites . Overall I would recommend this place to no one and to find a motel . It would be better than this !
Absolutely horrible experience. From the moment we checked in, it was clear customer service was not a priority. The front desk employee acted completely disinterested—no welcome, no information about the hotel, and definitely no mention that there would be no breakfast due to renovations. She only asked for my ID and credit card for a $100 deposit, handed me a key, and said nothing else—not even the room number or directions to the room. The room itself was fine, though the layout was odd (the toilet paper was placed in a really awkward spot). The real frustration came the next morning when we spent over 15 minutes wandering around trying to find the breakfast area. With the Nike Classic convention happening in the hotel, it was already chaotic. When we finally asked the front desk, they casually said, “Oh… we don’t have breakfast because it’s being renovated.” That is something guests should be told before or at least at check-in. Breakfast was one of the reasons we chose this hotel, and not being informed felt misleading. Overall, poor communication, unfriendly service, and not worth the money. I wouldn’t stay here again.
We just stayed for 3 nights and it was so great! The staff is so nice. The pool and jacuzzi were open and was so comfortable. The beds feel nice and the hotel is just huge! The only problem we had was pur key card stopped working. We went downstairs and the staff was so helpful and got me a new key card! We'd definitely come back if we took another trip here
The hotel was under renovation so we weren't expecting a perfect experience but we actually were happy with our room. It was clean, spacious, a large bathroom and overall not bad. The pillows were not comfortable and although we could control the HVAC we couldn't see the temperature because the screen on the thermostat was blank . But we liked the room. The biggest issue we had was when my wife was attempting to check out along with about 6 other guests their was NO ONE at the service desk. My wife waited nearly 15 minutes and all the guests were raising their voices to attract anyone who may of worked at the hotel, bit to no avail. My wife actually went behind the service desk and saw a bag/purse wide open but no live person. She finally left and we called Wyndham's Customer Service Line, which was frustrating also because they did nothing except apologize but we were told they couldn't reach the hotel either. So we called the reservation line at the hotel, and she finally connected to the front desk. Your hotel could of been robbed, or something very bad could of happened to a guest or an employee. I've never ever experienced anything like this in any hotel/motel we have stayed at. VERY VERY VERY ODD INDEED
As soon as we walked up to the doors it smelled like Marijuana and continued to smell like that down the hallway and in the elevator. The lady at the front desk was wearing a coat because it was soooo cold and the heat appeared to be off. Got to our room and the heat wont work, the toilet hinges were missing the caps and appeared to have urine dried on them. The room smelled like mexican cologne and just truly STUNK. The carpet was very dirty and outdated. The entire facility could use a good upgrade. We went straight back down and told them we were absolutely not staying there. DONT BOOK!!!
I gave it 3 since it was cheap and clean. Prices ranged from 45-110. I would have been angry if I’d have paid more than 45. This place needs help. Things are falling apart, missing molding, water damage all over (doors cabinets walls), flickering old lights. The minifrig door was ajar so a big frost blob developed inside. The exterior doors don’t all work. The side door I used was not secure (#3) you had to force it closed otherwise anyone could walk in. I did sleep well, good pillows, and the TV was entertaining. This place was likely very nice in the 1990s-2000s giant lobby.
I’ve stayed at this hotel 3 times now. The first couple times were ok. The third time it was disgustingly dirty and my room had bedbugs. I went to the front desk as soon as I saw them and the front desk clerk didn’t seem concerned at all. He asked if they bit me and then asked if I’d like a different room. Honestly I wanted a different hotel! I was only staying one night so the new room had to suffice. It wasn’t clean at all but I didn’t see bed bugs in this new room. I later asked for a refund which they were willing to give but since I booked through a third party they couldn’t issue a refund to me. The third party was traveluro.com and they had no idea what I was telling them and they didn’t issue a refund either. Such a horrible experience. Never staying with them again.
