The Capital Suites Hotel receives mixed reviews, with recent concerns centering around construction disruptions, unresolved billing issues, and security concerns in the parking garage. While some guests praise the location, spacious rooms, and friendly staff, significant problems with room temperature control and a lack of proactive communication regarding renovations are prevalent.
We were not notified that construction was being carried out. We Arrived and heard nothing but loud drilling until 5:15pm. Their signs said the bistro and bar would be open until Feb 15th and when we went to order a drink at night we were told they were closed due to renovations. Not appreciated or impressed at all for the cost of the stay. Disappointed that we weren't informed on the renovations before or at booking. Will not be back to this location
When i was checking out I was there for 15 min with no front desk agent. A house man asked me to leave my key on the desk and he validated my parking so I could leave. They refuse to give me my deposit back and all I did was sleep and leave. They can not tell me why they kept my money or charged me an additional 119 on the 22nd and I checked out on the 21st and paid for it on the 20th. Keep an eye on your bank account when dealing with them.
Do NOT stay here. The room registered 93 degrees. They said maintenance was trying to fix. They moved us to a lower level floor that register 86 degrees. Again they assured us a fix was coming. After our night out the room was still 86 degrees. When we checked out we were then told it wasn’t a maintenance issue but rather they disconnected the ability to have AC and cranked up the boilers and the message to guests was ‘that’s just they way it was going to be’. No compensation. No consideration that after a massive long drive and only getting minutes of sleep because it was impossible to sleep. This hotel doesn’t care about their guests. Service was embarrassing.
Super happy with this hotel. Great location right downtown and a short 15 minute drive to OSU for the football game. Got two rooms, both were very nice. A validated parking garage next door (though no security). The rooms were spacious suites, clean, modern. Beds were comfortable. TVs were web-enabled. Breakfast buffet was hot, and tasty for a buffet. Staff was welcoming. Really enjoyed it.
Outstanding central location for bopping about Columbus or going to a hockey game — GO JACKETS! The rooms are lovely. Plenty of space with beautiful views. They run chilly as you can’t shut off the fan, and remain chilly even if you crank the system up to 80*, but hey — the blanket is amazing. So is the water pressure in the shower — it only has one setting: pressure washing concrete — and it’s awesome.
The stay itself wasn’t bad and the hotel rooms aren’t bad but I have now been charged three times for my stay. I had paid prior to my stay and when I arrived I was asked for the deposit which is standard. I gave my card and later checked my bank account and saw I was charged the deposit plus the stay once again. I went to the lobby to let them know I was charged for the stay again and they said they didn’t see that charge on their end so I left it as is and figured maybe it was just fall off and was cancelled . Sure enough it went from a pending transaction to settled so I contacted them to let them know and to ask for a refund. Instead of refunding me the charge they charged me AGAIN! Now the third time I pay for a single night at this hotel and what would have been an $160 stay turned into almost $500. I can’t get anyone to answer the phone for this and their support chat is also not very responsive.
I am not one to create an issue for hotel staff, but in this case, it is well warranted. The rooms are fine, and the staff is friendly. The restaurant is great and the attached fitness center is actually an athletic club. However, they have a KNOWN SECURITY ISSUE in the PARKING GARAGE. Our locked car was ransacked and items stolen (laptop, perfume, sandals, children's clothing) within 2 hours of parking in the garage. It just so happened a hotel staff member was there. He explained we were the sixth incident in the time he had been there. I would still place this individual at the top of the suspects list as he took great pains to explain that there were no cameras in the area we parked. Given this issue, I can't in good conscience recommend this place, as they still had the audacity to charge me $25 for the parking for the evening. The cops can do nothing. Your alarm will go off and die in 2 minutes. They are obligated to hire security and create a patrol of this garage. If you arrive before check-in and want to explore the city, they should suggest staging your things inside the hotel. I would have easily otherwise rated this a 4 out of 5.
One of the best hotels I've stayed at in an extremely long time. The fitness center is better than anything I've seen. The room was massive with a very comfy bed. The service was great. I asked for a blanket and had it within 2 minutes. The view was incredible as well as so much to do just around the corner. As soon as you walk outside the river is visible and a great run.
I booked this room for 1 night. I was not advised that the hotel did not have any AC. I woke up hot and noticed the air didn't work. It wasn't until then that I was told the hotel didn't have any air. When I spoke with the manager, the same person who checked me in, she said that my air should not have been on (I was not told this prior) and that the air had been out for months. When I asked why I wasn't told beforehand, I wasn't given an explanation. I had to ask for box fans to try and cool the room off. Then later on, there was a note in the elevator that there would not be any water for 4 hours the next day. Again, no notification was sent, only what was in the elevator. Had I not gone out, I would never had known. I do not recommend staying here.
I had to go to another hotel as it was 86 degrees in my room and there's no way to control the temperature. It's controlled centrally and it's either on heating or cooling. They didn't charge me, they were understanding, and they offered me a fan. So I appreciate the woman at the desk. It was just too uncomfortable to stay. It's also quite old and tired.
