The Plaza Hotel Columbus at Capitol Square receives mixed reviews, with some praising its location and decent views. However, frequent complaints center around inconsistent room quality, malfunctioning amenities (AC, TVs, coffee makers), and issues with service and staff responsiveness. Significant concerns involve cleanliness, operational problems, and a lack of attention to detail, particularly regarding maintenance and guest comfort.

With some of the reviews I read, I was nervous about what the room would look like. I was pleasantly surprised that the room was nice, the bed was so comfy, and the water was HOT! One of the best features was the view of the capitol building from my room. I only wish they had a complimentary breakfast. At least there was hot coffee and a cold water dispenser in the lobby.

We have stayed at this hotel numerous times. Great location for downtown event. This past weekend was the worst. No valet and not told that in advance. Ice machine not working , tv didn’t work out of coffee the next morning in lobby and the carpet and furnishings were terribly worn. Stained seats and the freezer in the fridge was in need of a serious defrost. Totally unacceptable for a downtown hotel. It really needs to be shut down. Will be contacting corporate for a refund.

Don’t do it. The only positive was the rooms were clean. We stayed as part of a VIP package, not a VIP experience. NO parking. You have to park at a parking garage several blocks away. No air in the elevator or hallways during the weekend. Worked on Monday morning. Only 2 of 4 elevators worked. You may or may not find water or coffee in the lobby. Restaurant is not always open. Restaurants were a several block journey. Closet connivence store several blocks away, Dollar General and was poorly stocked. Stay elsewhere. Would never go back or send anyone there.

We stayed in room 605 and things looked hopeful based off the reviews I read before staying but things just got worse and worse. First off the room had no cold water, the cold water faucet to the sink just didn’t work at all. The toilet kept refilling with hot water, you could feel it as soon as you sat down. The room was clearly outdated, which fine I expected that based on the price, but the baseboards were literally falling off the wall. There also was just no fitted sheet on the bed, like what’s that about? The room didn’t get ridiculously hot, but the AC was definitely not working as well as it should have been, temp of the room didn’t match the thermostat. It was also locked so every time I tried to turn the fan to high it just went right back to auto. We ignored most of it because we didn’t spend much time in the room and also workers were pretty sparse. Lastly when we were trying to leave only 2 of the 4 elevators were working and were completely full every time they stopped for the 10 minutes we waited so we just drug our bags down 6 flights of stairs. I understand it’s cheap and a pretty good location, but when you end up having to pay for parking you might as well spend the extra $30 a night and stay anywhere else.

My stay in Room 403 was extremely disappointing from start to finish. The room was dirty when I arrived, and the bathroom was not properly cleaned. The air conditioning did not work, making the room uncomfortable throughout my stay. The TV also didn't work, which eliminated one of the basic amenities guests expect. To make matters worse, the coffee machine was set up in a way that it had to be used on the floor, which was both inconvenient and unsanitary. It felt like little attention had been given to the condition or functionality of the room before guests arrived. Overall, this was a very poor experience. Between the cleanliness issues, broken amenities, and lack of attention to detail, I would not stay here again and cannot recommend this property to others. Management needs to do a much better job maintaining rooms and ensuring guests receive the accommodations they are paying for.

Room 1003 experienced a ceiling collapse over the shower area during my stay. I reported it at checkout and was told a manager would contact me. I followed up by email and, more than a week later, have received no response regarding either the incident or a lost item inquiry. Disappointing lack of follow-through. As of June 8, I still have not received any direct follow-up regarding either the ceiling collapse or my lost item inquiry despite multiple assurances that management would contact me.

I don't usually write many reviews, but I wanted to warn people before staying here. Check in was terrible. There was a line out the door for hours and took us forever to get to the front. The ladies checking in were very nice, but they needed more help. They were sending a staff member up to see if rooms were ready and having to re-assign rooms if they weren't. Only 1 of the four elevators was working and it took 10+ minutes to get one to stop on your floor only to have it full of people. Our shower was making a screeching noise the entire night that kept me up and when you turned the knob no water came out. While waiting to check in we heard several other people coming down to tell the front desk that their shower didn't work either. Our friend's room was blasting heat despite being 75 degrees outside. We went to the bar to get a drink, and it was also blasting heat and about 90 degrees. We were all sweating and had to leave. I would never return to this hotel and would recommend others to not either.

We waited 30 minutes to check in and another 20 minutes to get an elevator up to our floor. One of our key cards didn’t work. Our showers were out of shampoo and body wash. The water was lukewarm. Our AC did not work. The staff was not helpful and there was barely anyone to accommodate the large amount of people checking in. There were two working elevators. Parking was advertised as $17 but ended up being $24. Hotel was outdated and looked nothing like the website. The hotel bar was not stocked and the bartender had no idea what he was doing. Will not be returning.

I stayed here for 2 nights and 3 days. Not once did I get any room service. I requested towels and they were brought to my room and left in the hallway on the floor in front of my door. When the towels were brought there was the sign on the handle stating maid service needed. Staff seen that and continued to ignore our room. We were left with soggy towels hanging up and unmade beds when coming back to our room. On top of that, after changing the AC temperature, it seemed to remain the same. The beds were considerably uncomfortable and it felt like you are sleeping on bricks. The sheets and comforters are rough and not even close to soft and enjoyable. The pillows are also very stiff and hard to bear. I do not recommend. Please do not come here.

Convenient to be so close to the Statehouse. But only 1/4 elevators worked. Rooms would not cool below 75 degrees. Conference Center escalators were broken. No valet. Staff were friendly but couldn’t do much with the resources they had. I had to get my keycard reprogrammed every time I left the room.
