The Canopy by Hilton Columbus Downtown Short North offers a modern and stylish base for exploring downtown Columbus. Recent reviews highlight both positive aspects like convenient location and attractive design, as well as significant concerns regarding room temperatures, inconsistent housekeeping, and sometimes unhelpful service. While some guests appreciate the rooftop bar and overall atmosphere, recurring issues persist, particularly with AC control and overall guest experience.
HOT rooms that wont' let the AC be turned below 68 degrees. Front desk didn't offer any solution to temperature situation which is disappointing given our Hilton status. I WON'T be staying here again. Lots of construction in the area. One day we had to wind thru 3 different NARROW alleys to get to hotel as the whole main road was closed off in front of the hotel. Hotel was nice, but there are others closer to the convention center with normal AC controls. If you don't mind sweating in your room, the facilities are nice otherwise. Also room service missed us one day, but since it was the day before our departure, I didn't bring it to management attention given their attitude regarding the AC. Also recommend just self parking in the garage just behind the hotel which can save you $$. (It's the same one the valets use, but at roughly half the cost)
I’ve stayed at this Canopy by Hilton three times now. My first stay was excellent, but the experience has gotten worse each year. This most recent stay was unacceptable. I booked two rooms for this stay. The first room checked in Thursday night and checked out Saturday morning. The second room checked in Friday night and also checked out Saturday morning. I paid over $1,100 total between the two rooms. The first room had multiple serious issues. The AC was not working, and the room stayed around 75°. The hallway thermostat showed 77°, and the AC appeared to be off. The lights in the room were rapidly flashing, which made it seem like there may have been an electrical issue. The sheets had what appeared to be blood or other stains on them. On Thursday night, when we went to the front desk, the employee appeared to be asleep at the desk both times. On Friday around 6pm, I spoke with someone at the front desk and was told we could switch rooms when we returned around midnight. When we came back, we were told there were no rooms left with two beds, which is what we needed. I asked to speak with a manager Friday night and was told no manager was available until Saturday morning. When I went back Saturday morning, I was then told no manager would be available until Monday. I asked for a manager to call me Monday and was assured someone would reach out. No one ever contacted me. I later called the corporate number, was passed around, and still never received a resolution. Between the room condition, lack of AC, stained bedding, lighting/electrical concerns, lack of management availability, and no follow-up, this was extremely disappointing. I expected much better from a Hilton property. I would like someone from management or Hilton to contact me directly and provide a resolution.
I cannot gush about this hotel, and more specifically Liz Vernon, enough! I got married last weekend. We hosted our welcome cocktail reception here as well as our room block. Liz was an absolute joy to work with the whole time. She was flexible with phone calls, met with us at least three times in person, and made sure all our needs were met. People loved the outdoor space on the second floor for the cocktail reception. After our wedding, we also went up to the rooftop bar. The room was clean and had a sweet handwritten note/champagne bottle waiting for us. I toured many hotels in Columbus to find the best one for the hotel block and reception, this was the perfect mix for both.
This was a disappointing stay from start to finish. Daily housekeeping was inconsistent at best. Despite requesting service, towels were not replaced, beds remade with existing linens, poorly, trash was not emptied, facial tissues and other basic amenities were not replenished, and caffeinated coffee was never refreshed. The room itself was not particularly comfortable. The desk was awkwardly high for working, and there was little else in the way of thoughtful amenities to make the space functional. The lobby experience felt chaotic, with a confusing and disorganized third-party registration process. The restaurant managed to double-charge us for a cold coffee, which was especially frustrating considering complimentary coffee was available in the lobby. Unfortunately, the atmosphere throughout the property was equally lacking. Many guests were loud, unruly, and disruptive, while service in the bar was among the weakest I’ve experienced in Ohio. Staff appeared disengaged, and there seemed to be little coordination between the kitchen and bar teams. Overall, the property felt poorly managed, understaffed, and inattentive to basic hospitality standards. There are too many other hotels in the area delivering better service and value to recommend staying here.
Update: as of 5/27 still have not heard back from or had a single person contact me about this matter. Will never return and will not recommend to anyone. No excuse for the lack of service provided. They also will not allow me to post photos of the damage to my car or the dirty underwear left in the room. I submitted feed back last week hoping this would be made right but still have not heard anything back. The front desk staff were very nice but I had multiple issues during my stay. We paid for Valet parking but none of the staff could drive manual so I had to park myself and still was charged for valet parking even though we were told it would be taken off. When we left the hotel, my seat was all the back and a scratch was on the bottom of my steering wheel as if someone squeezed into my driver seat. Which doesn’t make sense because they couldn’t drive manual and my car wasn’t moved. The room was nice at first glance, but the usb ports didn’t work next to the bed. The bed side lights would flash if we turned the main lights off. The carpet had pink glitter in it that got on my clothes. And when we were checking out we noticed something blue under the sink. I thought that maybe it was an amenities bag and I didn’t want to leave the room a mess so I reached down and picked it up. It was a pair of dirty blue men’s underwear. That I grabbed with my hand. I let the front desk staff know at check out. For the price that was paid for one night I highly doubt I’d stay here again. It was a major hassle to deal with all of that over one night. And as mentioned I submitted feedback last Wednesday and still have heard nothing back from Hilton or the Canopy.
Hotel itself is very beautiful, but service is the worst! Management clearly doesn't care, because so many things cannot happen at once. - Front desk almost always empty. I haven't ever seen FO of such hotel levels without a clerk. Front office manager should cover the desk when agent has to step away, but instead he was sitting in the back office. While he was out in the lobby heading to the breakfast area, he didn't greet a single guest on his way. - Valet parking (which we didn't use on purpose - the garage is a minute walk) guys are not welcoming the guest, just saying "hey". - Breakfast: it was quite slow on Sunday morning, but half of the tables were not cleaned. When waitress showed up, she started to clean first, before taking care of clients. Menu wasn't provided. And, of course, she was not engaging with a single guest. From her conversation with another colleague that happened right above my head, I learned that she was working double shift a day before. This is very unfortunate, but made me think that the hotel is understaffed. However, it should not be affect guests experience at all!!! Wish for some positive changes, because this place deserves a good quality service to keep with brand standards!
An awesome place to stay in the short north. Very close to the Convention Center and Nationwide Arena. Service staff were great and so very friendly. I love the rooftop bar and restaurant. Great views during the day, but stunning at night. The outdoor area has fire pits to stay warm or just enjoy the fire light. Restaurant staff and food was also amazing. The room was absolutely stunning and clean. I recommend the Canopy to all who was a great stay downtown.
I come to Columbus for work about every other week. I am a loyalist to Hilton brand hotels. I am Diamond member and have been for years. Overall, this hotel is decent. The valet is excellent, the service is good, the restaurant is great and fast. The location is good, Columbus in general is a pretty walkable city. But I’m inclined to never stay here again (this is my third or fourth time). The rooms are down right HOT, there is no other way to put it. It makes being in the room uncomfortable and sleep nearly impossible. I have had to go sit at restaurants just to escape the heat, not my favorite thing to do especially after a long day at work. I don’t always travel alone for work and every single person has said the same thing: HOT rooms. There are plenty of other Hilton options in Columbus and going forward, I will likely choose those over the Canopy every single time. Pictures of the thermostat from my most recent stay are included. Room temperature has not gotten below 75, ridiculous.
Room is very warm; thermostat won’t let me set it below 68 or toggle to AC. The power outlets between the beds lose power when the room lights are turned off — there’s no switch to turn off the “lamps” (meaning the light bar built into the headboard) separately, so you have to choose between charging your phone or turning off the lights. Bush league!
Great place to stay. My room was quiet, clean, comfortable, fresh. Great towels and the shower had plenty of hot water with excellent water pressure. Casual restaurant on the main floor for breakfast and a dinner restaurant on the top floor.
