The Canopy by Hilton Columbus Downtown Short North offers a modern and well-maintained experience with a convenient location in the heart of the Short North Arts District. While guests appreciate the central location, stylish design, and friendly staff, issues with room temperature, outdated technology, and inconsistent service have been reported.
Room is very warm; thermostat won’t let me set it below 68 or toggle to AC. The power outlets between the beds lose power when the room lights are turned off — there’s no switch to turn off the “lamps” (meaning the light bar built into the headboard) separately, so you have to choose between charging your phone or turning off the lights. Bush league!
Great place to stay. My room was quiet, clean, comfortable, fresh. Great towels and the shower had plenty of hot water with excellent water pressure. Casual restaurant on the main floor for breakfast and a dinner restaurant on the top floor.
I arrived after midnight and called the front desk for parking instructions. The night clerk, Stacia, did not provide clear or usable directions. When I asked for clarification to avoid parking incorrectly, she hung up on me in the middle of the call. When I later arrived at the front desk, the situation worsened. She told me she had the authority to deny my check-in, despite the fact that I was already checked in with a confirmed reservation. She then made me wait for an extended period, claiming she could not issue a room key, while refusing to switch computers, call a supervisor, or seek help from anyone else. This did not appear to be a technical issue — it appeared intentional. The tone was arrogant, dismissive, and hostile. At no point was I rude; I was simply trying to check into a room I had already paid for. Hanging up on a guest, providing incorrect information, and refusing to involve a supervisor is unacceptable under any circumstances, but especially late at night when guests are tired and vulnerable. This experience reflects extremely poorly on the management and oversight of this property. I will not return, and I strongly caution other travelers — particularly late-night arrivals — to consider staying elsewhere.
Hotel is very clean and nicely decorated. Enjoyed the modern architecture. Central Market restaurant for breakfast was very good. We enjoyed our meal and the girl waiting on us was very nice. In a very convenient spot for walking to local shops/restaurants/nationwide arena. Everyone in the hotel was very polite. I am only giving less stars because we paid quite a bit to have a suite ..room number 508 to be exact, and also used a majority of our points only to have below average room for the cost. Despite the looks which was very nice we had a few issues that were not able to be resolved during our stay despite talking to front desk. The ac/heating was EXTREMELY loud in the living room , sounded like someone drilling (luckily this was not in the bedroom) , the refrigerator did not work so we sadly could not really keep our food we brought back to the room cold and not even "cool" . The shower leaked ALOT all over the floor. There is also no microwave in the room or ANYWHERE in this hotel so be aware you will not be able to bring food back and reheat it not even in the lobby. Very strange and inconvenient ice machines, no instructions on how to use a simple ice machine, had to go to lobby to ask why it wouldn't work...you have to scan your "physical"room key each time and hold it against sensor while holding your ice bucket against it to fill. This is stupid and definitely awkward. Lights all come on in bathroom whether you want them to or not, despite turning some off that you don't want on because they are too bright, too bad because they will all come right back on again despite that. Not everyone wants to be blinded when walking into the bathroom expecially at night time when barely awake. These new lights in these hotels are just super annoying. Not just this hotel. We explained all this to girl at checkout and she was very nice and mentioned she would refund a lot of our points but would rather have some money off instead. In summary, big let down for a Hilton stay.
Hotel is modern, clean and well maintained. Rooms are fresh and modern with the right amount of charm. Everything was extremely clean and well taken care of. The lobby bar and restaurant was good and the rooftop bar is excellent. I will definitely stay here again
Service was great. The staff were all really nice and friendly. Loved the fact that we were able to check into our room before the 4 o'clock check in time. Location was in walking distance to COSI and many restaurants. The hotel does not have on-site parking, hotel offers valet parking for 45 dollars or you can park in a city lot.
Location ok but not the best . They have valet service. Bistro at first floor and top roof bar great for night & brunch with iconic city view. Modern minimalist nowadays crispy clean property. Great for solo or family. Highly recommended this property.Great job Hilton
I rented this room for the Matt Rife comedy show at Nationwide Arena recently. It's really close to the arena. We loved only having to walk 3 minutes back to the room after an amazing show. Check in was super easy + quick. Everyone was friendly, accommodating, and helpful. The room key is wood which was soooooo cool. Valet was quick, easy, efficient. Self parking is available but I preferred valet here. Beds are really soft & comfy. The friend I traveled with usually has a hard time falling asleep and had no issues with the beds in this room. Here are my complaints. The AC here is HORRIBLE. You cannot set it lower than 68 degrees. Multiple people - including us - complained of how hot the hotel was. The rooms are toasty too. I prefer a colder hotel room. I'd recommend bringing a small table fan for air circulation. Also, this hotel room has smart lights. It ended up turning the lights off while one of us was in the shower which is a huge inconvenience. I didn't like this at all. The room has no clock which I thought was odd.
Large updated room. Great layout for business. Dedicated area for luggage, workstation, and relaxed work area. Great shower. Close to Columbus Crew soccer, blue jackets hockey and clippers and convention center. $60-75 cheaper than the other Hilton downtown. I have stayed at both, this one is great and I don't see the benefit in staying at high priced option.
I can’t say how much I love this Hotel! Starting with amazing local inspired concept of the hotel. They offer an amazing rooftop named “Goodale Station” fantastic food and cocktails. The staff of the hotel, especially the front desk just left a great impression. If you’re looking for a hotel that has more of a boutique feel, but has all amenities of a larger hotel. This is the spot for you.
