The South Wind Motel is a charming, renovated retro hotel located in the heart of German Village, Columbus. Guests consistently praise its unique aesthetic, cleanliness, and thoughtful amenities, creating a memorable and comfortable stay. While parking can be tight, the motel’s convenient location and friendly service make it a popular choice for travelers.
The South Wind Motel was just right for our one night stop. We loved that they restored a small motel. . Love that we could park right outside the door. It was a very kitschy place. Bed was comfy and sheets and towels were great. The retro vibe was fabulous! Loved the coffee and the water in the fridge. All the information given about the area was fantastic. We ate at Emmett's and Wow! That recommendation was excellent.
Easy to get to right off I71. Beautiful motel with the original old feel! Nice hot showers. Comfortable beds. And a lot of free items in the lobby should you forget something on your travels. The lady running the lobby was friendly and the motel products you can buy there are super cute! For the same price as a standard Holiday Inn Express within the same area, this was well worth it! Check it out if you are looking for a place to stay in Columbus!
This motel is one of the gems of Columbus. We booked both large suites for our wedding party getting ready, and regular rooms for guests. Couldn't have asked for a better place! The decor is so cool, rooms are so clean, and responding times so quick. I cannot wait to come stay again!!!!
I came back into town with my partner for the weekend and decided to give South Wind a shot, since I saw it had been renovated. I'm glad I did, because this place is millenial catnip. It's clean, it's comfortable, and the rooms are gorgeous and actually look like the photos. The price is also very reasonable, especially given the quality of the accommodations and the location. It's very easy to walk to a lot of the city's bars and restaurants from here, and it's also well serviced by public transit, if city driving makes you nervous. Of note, the room we stayed in was also very accessible, other than the step up to get into the hotel. The shower is a walk in and there are a lot of grab bars and supports throughout the bathroom, as well as plenty of space to get a wheelchair or walker through. While were were here the door lock malfunctioned while were trying to re-enter our room. The staff were no longer on site, but after I texted them they were able to troubleshoot, and when that didn't work they were there within 10 minutes. Seriously helpful folks who seem invested in the area. We plan to stay again when we visit next.
We recently stayed at the South Wind Motel while we were in Columbus and we absolutely loved it. The property is beautifully updated. Everything was incredibly clean and very well maintained, and it was clear that the owners take real pride in the place. It has a cozy, thoughtful feel that you just don’t get from chain hotels. Our suite had a separate living area with a couch, table, and TV, plus a bedroom with a comfortable king bed. The kitchenette was a great, and the bathroom setup was especially nice with walk-in shower We also loved the little details. The door used an electronic keypad so we could check in easily without needing to meet anyone. They provided locally roasted coffee with pour over, a record player with albums to enjoy, and even a few simple games like Uno. They also have a compost option for things like coffee grounds and fruit peels, which was a thoughtful and environmentally friendly touch. The location was perfect for us as well, close to German Village and plenty of great restaurants. It’s the kind of place that feels personal, comfortable, and genuinely cared for. We will absolutely stay here again on future trips to Columbus and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a charming, clean, and well-kept place to stay.
We really enjoyed our stay. The room was clean. Easy check in and check out. Coffee and tea provided. A short walk to the heart of German Village. The whole place was super cute. The bed and bedding were unbelievably comfortable. Also, free parking in areas like these is hard to find. We appreciate it is included. All in all, we highly recommend staying here.
I had a gig with NC bands at a local Columbus venue and needed to stay for a night. I was concerned about staying anywhere near downtown Columbus do to thieves breaking windows out of vehicles at several hotels around the area. South Winds Motel was the only place I didn't read a review about this happening. I decided to call before I left Pittsburgh to see about a room or 2 and Candace checked for me. She was very helpful and made me feel more confident about staying there after the gig. She checked me in late after the show. The parking lot was well lit, security cameras, and a security vehicle in the lot. I had no problems. Room was clean and I could keep an eye on my truck parked rite outside. Props to Candace for helping me out so much in a pinch. I feel I have a decent place to stay in Columbus for the next bands tour. ? Thank you Candace.
A very cool, renovated, retro, cozy hotel, former motel. Don't be put off when you pull into the parking lot and you feel like you've pulled into an hourly motel because it's nothing of the sort. Very comfortable and very clean inside. Completely renovated and modernized. The rooms come with record players (like old-style turntables) with a few classic vinyls waiting to be played. The room is very well equipped, and in case you forgot anything, the lobby has 24-hour access with toothbrushes, hair ties, and whatever else you may have forgotten. Super convenient check-in and check-out, and great location. Very comfortable bedding. My wife wants to buy the pillows.
Lovely place, never wanted to leave ? Clean, spacious, attention to detail. lovely walkable city. Adored the vinyls. Water was hot. The chemex coffee provided was perfect. Tried Law Bird’s cocktail bar and emmett’s coffee shop as per their recommendation, just a quick walk down the road and amazing beverages at both. Quick drive to pretty much anywhere you’d like to go in the area.
We've stayed in Columbus many times, but this was, hands down, our favorite spot!! The room was cute, clean, and comfy. Contactless check in and out was a bonus! We loved being able to park our car right in front of our door unlike big hotels, and it was included in the room rate! The set up of this cute little place is great! I enjoyed the pour over coffee - so much better than k-cups! I even texted to ask for more coffee and got an immediate response to where I could find some. The key-coded office had everything you could think of if you forgot anything and I used the microwave a time or two when my coffee got cold. The location in German village was also great - lots of food and drinks nearby, a straight shot into downtown, and a painless uber ride to other places we needed to go! I travel a lot and this little motel has it going on! ??
